Today we are going to take a look at the Sun in Aries in the 1st House…. otherwise known as Sun in the 1st House for Aries Ascendant. Traditionally, most astrologers would probably say that this is a very fortunate position to have, considering that the Sun is exalted in Aries and according to most classical texts, loves being in the 1st House. But, let’s take it slow and start by first brushing up on the meanings of the Sun, Aries, and the 1st House.
The Sun – This is the planet of light and visibility. It’s the biggest and brightest object in the sky, making it impossible to miss. Therefore, the Sun is associated with being noticeable – or being the center of attention. The Sun is a “star”, and is therefore connected to fame and celebrity. The word “Sun” is a homonym for the word “Son”, and not by accident. The Sun represents children, especially male children. Throughout history, parents have often hoped for male children, and having a male child was usually considered lucky. Therefore, the Sun is a planet that symbolizes luck, blessings, gifts, or talents. It also symbolizes Kings and fathers.
Aries – This is the first sign of the Zodiac. Therefore, its symbolism has a lot to do with anything related to the number 1, including: being first, winning, starting things, and being solo/independent. The animal associated with this sign is the Ram. Rams are obviously famous for ramming things, and so is this zodiac sign. It often corresponds with collisions, penetration, explosions, aggression, and exerting force against something. Aries rules the head.
1st House – This is the natural house of Aries. The word Aries is also pronounced Ares, which sounds a lot like the word “are” in the English language. This is not by accident in my opinion. The word “are” means “to be” in English, and that is the core theme of the 1st House. It is the house that shows what you ARE…what your identity is, what type of human being you are. Any sign or planet in the 1st House literally becomes you. It becomes a part of who you ARE. Considering this is the natural house of Aries, the first house also tends to naturally indicate collisions, penetration, going first, and independence.

Now that we have reviewed the fundamentals, let’s start exploring some of the probable manifestations of the Sun in Aries in the 1st House. Please note, these are possibilities – NOT predictions. Making responsible predictions requires a full examination of the native’s birth chart.
Possibility #1
A Popular & Independent Identity
Since the 1st House is the house of identity, then adding the Sun and Aries here can potentially make someone a popular and independent person. In fact, they may be popular or famous for being independent. The native with this placement in their chart will likely be born as a very masculine person as well, considering that the Sun and Aries are two of the most masculine symbols in all of astrology.
Possibility #2
1st Impression = Proud & Pushy
Because the 1st House often indicates the 1st impression people have of you, then perhaps upon meeting you, many people find you to be a proud/confident (Sun) person who also seems a bit pushy or aggressive. The Sun is the king/lion in astrology and kings and lions have long been symbols of pride and high self esteem. And Aries is the ram and rams are famous for being aggressive and hot-headed. So when you tie it all together, having Sun in Aries in the 1st House could mean that people think that you are proud and pushy when they first meet you.
Possibility #3
Victorious Performer
The Sun represents being in the spotlight. Therefore, it is strongly linked to performers. And Aries denotes the number 1 or being first. So, this placement can indicate being a performer who wins, most likely at sports because Aries is ruled by Mars and is associated with athletics and competition. Plus, the first house also indicates victory, because it is also associated with the number one. So, you’ve got two indicators of the number one here, plus the Sun. Tie it all together, and you’ve got someone who might be a big winner when they are competing under the lights.
Possibility #4
“King of the Rams”
In my experience as an astrologer, people seriously underestimate how literal astrology can be. If you have the Sun in Aries in the 1st House, then its possible that at some point in your life, you might write a book with a title like, “King of the Rams”. The Sun is the king. Aries is the Ram. And the 1st House is about starting things. So maybe you start the book, but you never finish it. Or maybe you are the first to ever write a book like this. Or maybe its not a book at all. Maybe you often wear a hat on your head with a logo that says, “King of the Rams”. The 1st House is the head. Aries is the Ram. The Sun is the King. Tie it all together and it’s entirely possible that something like this will happen.

As I’ve said, these possibilities are NOT predictions. And to be honest, it’s likely that none of them will actually come true if you have this specific placement in your chart. So does that mean that astrology isn’t real? Or does it mean that I am a bad astrologer? Perhaps. However, it could also simply mean that a person’s birth chart can manifest in practically unlimited ways.
Our job as practitioners of astrology is to look carefully at our chart, and look carefully at our own lives, and then hopefully understand how a placement in our chart is showing up in our life. The possibilities I’ve outlined here today are not meant to be a prediction, they are meant to be food for thought. You have to look at your own chart and start thinking about how all the parts are coming together. Analyze your life. Pay attention. And honestly, I have found when you do that, it’s amazing how often astrology becomes not only accurate, but incredibly obvious and simple! It’s truly amazing.
